Rose Thicket transformed a derelict 1916 clinker brick shed into a tea cottage for the 2017 Pasadena Showcase House of Design. Set in a coast live oak woodland on a Tudor revival estate in Pasadena, CA, the tea cottage was designed as a respite for the lady of the estate to rest and relax from her time spent tending her english roses in the garden. Rose Thicket preserved the historical integrity of the original Marston & Van Pelt structure by restoring the exterior brick covered in english ivy, painting the exterior woodwork, and installing the exterior lighting while preserving the historical brick. Existing doors were replaced with custom designed brass leaded glass doors. On the inside, we created an organic interior of a Tudor style half-timber framed cottage of salvaged oak beams and wood structure with hand made lime plaster ceiling and walls.
